Casio AE-1300WH Review – Wearing It Every Day for 31 Days
If you’re looking for an affordable digital watch packed with features, the Casio AE-1300WH is one that often flies under the radar. Originally designed with sports officials and referees in mind, it offers far more than just a stopwatch, making it an interesting choice for everyday wear.
Over the course of 31 days, I wore the Casio AE-1300WH every single day to find out what it was really like to live with. Long-term wear often reveals things you simply don’t notice during a quick unboxing or first impressions review, and that’s exactly why I enjoy spending an entire month with a watch before sharing my thoughts.
This particular AE-1300WH wasn’t bought new. I picked it up second-hand on eBay a few years ago for around the £13-£14 mark, making it an absolute bargain. But after wearing it throughout July, is it still a watch I’d recommend today?
A Very Comfortable Daily Wearable Casio Watch!
The first thing that stood out during my month-long test was just how comfortable the Casio AE-1300WH really is.
Despite its feature-packed appearance, it’s a surprisingly lightweight watch at around 39 grams, and that low weight makes a huge difference during everyday use. Once on my wrist, I quickly forgot I was even wearing it on a daily basis.
The overall case design is shared with a few other Casio models, including the AE-1200 and AE-1600 series. So if you’ve worn one of those before, you’ll already have a good idea as to how this watch will feel. For reference, I have a 6.5-inch wrist, and I found the perfect fit on the third adjustment hole. Once fastened, the watch stayed securely in place without sliding up and down my wrist throughout the day.
Whether I was washing the car, gardening or simply getting on with everyday life during the warmer weather in July, the AE-1300WH never felt intrusive. It didn’t catch on clothing, restrict wrist movement or become uncomfortable after hours of wear.
In fact, when the month came to an end, it was one of those rare watches that I genuinely didn’t want to take off.
For comfort alone, the Casio AE-1300WH scores incredibly high.
Casio AE-1300WH – Design and Display
One of the reasons I enjoy wearing the AE-1300WH is its understated design.
Although it’s undeniably a digital sports watch, it doesn’t scream for attention. The combination of the resin case, matching resin strap and polished metal pushers gives it a clean, balanced appearance that works surprisingly well, both casually and in slightly smarter situations.
It’s a watch that I feel is perfectly suited to everyday use.
What’s it like to live with the LCD Display?
The LCD display is another area where this watch impressed me.
The large digits are easy to read at a glance, while the display itself is crisp and sharp when viewed head-on. That’s something I’ve actually found missing on newer Casio models, where the displays can sometimes appear slightly faded when viewed straight on. The AE-1300WH doesn’t suffer from that problem at all.
Yes, the three graphic indicators across the top of the display might look a little busy at first, and I know some people may find them distracting. However, after wearing the watch for a few days, I naturally found myself focusing on the time rather than those indicators, so they quickly faded into the background.
The only real criticism I have concerns the viewing angles.
At more extreme angles, there is some noticeable ghosting, where parts of the display begin to merge together slightly. Thankfully, it’s never an issue during normal wear and simply rotating your wrist slightly restores the display immediately.
Overall, it’s an excellent digital display that’s clean, easy to read and very practical for daily use.

Where this watch really stands apart, however, is its timer functionality.
Built for Referees and Sports Timing
The AE-1300WH was designed primarily as a referee’s watch, and that becomes obvious once you start exploring its stopwatch functions.
Unlike a standard stopwatch, this model includes a dual timing system that allows one timer to be paused while another continues counting. This makes it ideal for tracking injury time during football matches, allowing referees to roughly work out added time.
There’s also a Target Time (Event Timer) function, which can alert you when a pre-set elapsed time period has been reached, which can be up to 60 minutes.
Alongside that, you also get:
Preset countdown timers with auto repeat (up to 45 minutes). Interval timers supporting up to nine separate intervals which can reach up to 60 minutes per interval. Even if you’re not refereeing football matches, these timers make the watch incredibly versatile for training, workouts and everyday reminders.
The stopwatch system does take a little while to understand, and it’s certainly more advanced than a typical Casio digital watch. Once you’ve learned how everything works, though, it’s surprisingly capable.
Which Features Did I Actually Use?
Although the AE-1300WH offers a huge number of functions, I found myself regularly using just a handful during my 31-day long term test.
The countdown timer quickly became one of my favourites, particularly while cooking. It proved ideal for reminding me when it was time to shake the air fryer or to switch the oven off.
I also relied on the daily alarm during a recent trip to Dublin. With an early 5:15am alarm set to catch my flight from Newcastle Airport, the AE-1300WH performed exactly as expected and certainly helped in part to ensure I didn’t oversleep, will admit here though that my smartphone did most of the heavy lifting in waking me up.
Sometimes the simplest functions end up being the most useful.
LED Backlight
One feature I almost forgot to mention is the LED backlight. It’s bright, evenly illuminates the display and makes reading the time in darker conditions effortless. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a good digital Casio watch—simple, effective and reliable.
Casio AE-1300WH – Verdict After 31 Days
After wearing the Casio AE-1300WH every day for an entire month, I came away thoroughly impressed.
It’s incredibly comfortable, lightweight enough to forget you’re wearing and offers one of the clearest LCD displays I’ve experienced on a Casio digital watch.
Yes, there are minor drawbacks. The display does show a little ghosting at more extreme viewing angles, and some people may never warm to the three graphic indicators across the top of the screen. However, neither issue affected my enjoyment during everyday wear.
What really surprised me was just how easy this watch was to live with. It stayed securely on my wrist, never became uncomfortable and offered useful features that I actually found myself using on a daily basis.
At the time of writing, versions of the AE-1300WH can often be found for around £26 from Argos, while the more understated colourway I own typically costs closer to £40 from Amazon.
Whichever version you choose, I genuinely believe you’re getting excellent value for money.
